Summary

Kurt Alme is the Republican nominee in Montana's 2026 U.S. Senate election and will face Democratic nominee Alani Bankhead.

Kurt Alme has a limited public record on Israel and issues affecting Jewish communities. In a March 2026 interview, Alme supported efforts to set back Iran's nuclear ambitions and praised military action against Iran, while emphasizing that U.S. military engagement should serve a compelling national interest, have clearly defined objectives, and be undertaken with confidence that the United States can prevail.

As U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, Alme oversaw the prosecution of an ISIS-related terrorism case and promoted federal tools for reporting hate crimes and civil-rights violations.

The record

Positions come from public votes, statements and on-the-record interviews. Every claim links to its source. No aggregate score or grade.

Preventing a Nuclear Iran

In a March 2026 interview on The Scott Jennings Show, Alme said he supported efforts to set back Iran's nuclear ambitions as far as possible. He also praised preemptive military action against Iran, while stating that U.S. military engagement should serve a compelling national interest, have clearly defined objectives, and be undertaken with confidence that the United States can prevail.

Condemning and Combating Terrorism

In 2019, while serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, Alme oversaw the federal prosecution of an ISIS-related terrorism case. His office worked with the FBI and the Justice Department's Counterterrorism Section to secure a guilty plea and prison sentence for a man who made false statements during a terrorism investigation.

Standing Against Political Extremism

In June 2020, while serving as U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, Alme promoted the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Reporting Portal, which allowed members of the public to report hate crimes and other civil-rights violations directly to federal authorities. Alme said his office was committed to protecting the civil and constitutional rights of all Montanans and encouraged victims to report potential violations for investigation.

Alme also participated in a 2020 federal law-enforcement commission examining public safety, civil rights, community engagement, and violence affecting vulnerable communities. His testimony focused primarily on violence and jurisdictional challenges in tribal communities rather than ideological extremism, so it provides only limited evidence for this category.
