Summary
The Democratic nominee for New York's 10th District, covering Lower Manhattan and parts of western Brooklyn, Lander defeated the incumbent, Representative Dan Goldman in the June 2026 primary. Lander accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, opposes further military aid, campaigned by making the pro-Israel organization AIPAC a major part of his public campaign, and built his coalition with activists who oppose Zionism.

Accuses Israel of genocide
Lander says he objects vehemently to what Israel is doing to Palestinians in Gaza, which he believes meets the definition of genocide, as well as in the West Bank and Lebanon, while also affirming his belief in the possibility of a Jewish and democratic Israel alongside a free Palestine once what he calls decades of occupation and apartheid end. He was among the earliest progressive Jewish officials to call for a ceasefire, in November 2023, in the immediate aftermath of the October 7 terror attack. In his congressional campaign he pledged to oppose additional United States military aid to Israel.
The Israel bonds controversy
As comptroller, Lander allowed New York City's pension holdings in Israel bonds, worth about 39 million dollars when he took office, to mature without reinvestment, letting them fall to zero. Mayor Eric Adams and Lander's predecessor Scott Stringer accused him of effectively joining the BDS campaign against Israel.
