Stop the University and College Union Academic Boycott of Israel!
It’s outrageous! Delegates to the first annual meeting of the University and College Union (UCU), Britain’s largest trade union for academics, voted to send to their general membership a Palestinian proposal for an academic boycott of Israel, calling on British academics to condemn the "complicity of Israeli academia in the occupation."
The American Jewish Congress, along with many other organizations, is working to stop the boycott. As one step to put an end to this outrage, Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is asking academics outside Israel to declare themselves to be Israeli academics for purposes of any academic boycott and to decline to participate in any activity from which Israeli academics are excluded. Because many American Jewish Congress members and supporters are members of the academic community or have contacts in academia, we are helping gather signatures for the declaration.
